Black Fact = (1871,1972 & 1983) Johnson, Willis & Trout

1- Black Fact = 1871 (June 17) – James Weldon Johnson (member of PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY, INC.) , the first black person admitted to the Florida Bar, was born in Jacksonville, FL, on this date in 1871. He was an author, lyricist, poet, educator and he was also the first Black executive of the NAACP. He was also the co-composer (with his brother John Rosamond) of ‘LIFE EVERY VOICE AND AND SING,’ the song that would later become known as the Negro National Anthem.

2- Black Fact = 1972 ( June 17) – Frank Wills, a Black Washington, DC, security guard, foiled a break-in at the offices of the Democratic National Committee on this date in 1972-the first event of the Watergate conspiracy

3- Black Fact = 1983 (June 17) – Nelson W. Trout, professor and Director of Minority Studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, OH), was elected Bishop of the American Lutheran Church’s South Pacific District on this date in 1983-the first black U.S. Evangelical Lutheran Bishop.
