Black Fact= 1938 (June 22) – Joe Louis, famous boxer, knocked out German boxer, Max Schmeling, on this date in 1938. This victory was especially sweet since, in 1936, Adolf Hitler had gloated over a Schmeling victory over Louis. Louis now became the first black national sports hero. He was commemorated on a U.S. postage stamp on this date in 1993.
