– Black Fact = 1967 (June 30) – Major Robert H. Lawrence, Jr. was named as the first black astronaut on this date in 1967. He died later that year during a training flight.
2- Black Fact= 1949- Dr. William A. Hinton, was appointed Professor of Immunology and Bacteriology at Harvard University and Dr. Jay Saunders Redding was appointed visiting Professor of English at Brown University on this date in 1949. This marked the first time either school had appointed a black professor.
