Black Fact = 1963 (July 22) – Floyd Patterson is defeated by Sony Liston and loses his world heavyweight title.

Born on January 4, 1935, in Waco, North Carolina, boxer Floyd Patterson won the middleweight gold medal at the 1952 Olympics. He became the youngest heavyweight champion in history in 1956, and four years later became the first heavyweight to regain his title after a loss. Named chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission in 1995, Patterson died on May 11, 2006, in New Paltz, New York.
