1- Black Fact = 1917 (October 10) – Jazz pianist Theolonius Monk is born in Rocky Mount, NC. He was only one of 3 jazz musicians ever featured on the cover of Time magazine.
2- Black Fact=1978 (October 10)-Ralph Metcalf, Congressman and Olympic track star, died on this date in 1978. Metcalf won two individual Olympic Silver Medals and one team Gold Medal. He also won the “Legion of Merit” after serving as Army First Lieutenant in World War II.
