Black Fact = 1915 (March 20) – Rosetta Nubin, “Sister Rosetta” Tharpe, singer and guitarist, was born in Cotton Plant (Woodruff County), AK, on this date in 1915. Nubin, commemorated on a 2003 US postal stamp, was one of gospel’s first superstars and among the first gospel singers to record on the DECCA label. She began performing as a child with her mother. One of the first gospel artists to perform in both churches and secular clubs, she is credited with bringing gospel music into the mainstream in the 1930s and 1940s. She toured until her death in 1973. #theraydiotwins
