Black Fact = 1892 (April 26) – Sarah Boone, inventor, patented the Ironing Board on this date in 1892. Patent # 473,653. Boone wrote that the purpose of her invention was “to produce a cheap, simple, convenient and highly effective device, particularly adapted to be used in ironing the sleeves and bodies of ladies’ garments.” With its approval in 1892, Boone became one of the first African American women to be awarded a patent. #theraydiotwins
