Black Fact = 1900 (May 23) – Sgt. William H. Carney, a leader in the 54th Massachusetts Volunteers Regiment who charged on Fort Wagner in the Civil War, received the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery on this date. Carney became the first black person to receive this award.#theraydiotwins
