Charles Rangel, former Democratic congressman from New York for almost five decades, dies Monday.

He was 94.

Charles Bernard “Charlie” Rangel has passed away. Charles Rangel was elected to the House of Representatives in 1971 after defeating Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.  #theraydiotwins 

Rangel who was also a veteran who served in the Korean War where he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze star.

He championed his Harlem community on Capitol Hill for almost five decades.

He was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the lone surviving member of the “Gang of Four,” has died. He was 94.
